Default One Smokin' Seafari!

I figured I'd share some of the more compelling history of my boat. These pics are from our family's 1989 total-loss house fire; I was 11 at the time. Thankfully everyone got out safe. Sharing the pics here on CSC that the SeaCraft makes an appearance in, which survived with "minimal" damage (I'll get into that later ). My folks purchased the boat from a neighbor in 1978, so at the time of the fire we'd racked up over a decade of memories already!

Our Seafari is seen sizzlin' to the right of the chimney. Being winter, it was parked on the trailer adjacent to the structure where the fire culminated :

The aftermath, peekaboo!:

Crispy canvas and dark spots on the hull...

Although not the star of the show, the SeaCraft did sneak in the paper , peaking over the Jags:

Like stated in the article about the Jaguar's, I believe the firemen thankfully pulled the boat forward away from the building, before intentionally pulling the walls down, in an effort to extinguish the fire. That part of the house was a newly-built indoor swimming pool enclosure, and well... one unlucky fireman didn't know that and accidentally "took a dip". Thankfully he was OK. Being winter, the firefighter had a hell of a time because the pump water would freeze and they had to fight the fire while "ice skating". The entire flooded road was all ice. They had to call the town to sand the roads to maneuver their trucks, but being in the middle of the night, they're not exactly on call! You can see the driveway is a sheet of ice in the second pics. As they often do, a fireman's wife took pictures of the blaze, so we have an entire album of the event.

The boat: Two windows shattered from the heat, and were subsequently replaced. The replacement tempered glass has a blue tint to it, instead of the OG brown. Obviously damage to the canvas and melted the clear side panels. The top deck edge below the cuddy window got singed, along with a small section of the rub strip where heat bubbles are still present. My dad painted the entire top deck with white epoxy paint and a brush to hide the damage after the fire, and regretted doing so ever since... Between the fire, and the fact that the starboard-side of the boat always faced the sun when docked, it is generally the noticeably-duller side, including the original now-frosted plexi cabin windows... The worst, and most lasting heat-related damage is cracking in the fiberglass top deck, which I'll add pics of shortly. It's gotten progressively worse over the years. I plan on repairing this soon, and being I'm no pro, will be reaching out for advise as I go... Eventually I would like to respray the entire top deck. I dream of seeing her shine again!
