Default HIN decode help needed

I recently purchased my first Seacraft. Love the boat so far. I was told it started life as a Savage, but was converted to side console by PO. Lady at DMV was confused by last (2) digits being 78 but title saying 79. I told her I assumed 10 meant Oct 78 production. HIN is:

I'm assuming this is hull #002 for 1979. Could that be correct? Can anyone here tell me what does the G stand for? Savage? I've read S meant Savage in other threads.
