I've read here that the Tsunami changed names to Sceptre in '76 due to Tsunami Boats suit, but the hull design suit is news to me. Penn Yan made a tunnel cut-away hull v-drive boat in the '70s but I don't know about any legal connection. Any more info on that would be interesting... would certainly explain its rarity on the SeaCraft hull...

Nice copycat rig, Fred keep the boat porn coming...

Re: Tunnel/Pocket drive on Tsunami new [Re: McGillicuddy]

North American, Anacapri, John Allmand, Tiara/Slickcraft, Correct Craft, Tempest, Chris Craft, SeaWind, Pacemaker/Alglas, Searay, Baretta, Thompson, and Century ALL made pocket drive inboards or V-drives with tunnels. The 24' Anacapri tunnel pocket was so deep, the boat could only back in a straight line, as the rudder had no effect at all in reverse.

My favorite was the 1972 26' Allmand flybridge with the 10' beam with twin 160 hp Volvo 4 cyl. turbo diesel straight inboards with "pocket drives". Motors and Propellers mounted a full 6' apart. 28 kts WOT, 22kts and 3 gph/per engine cruise, twin 90 gallon side tanks mounted inside the gunwales. Over 650 nm range at cruise. Sleeps 7 with full camper canvas. (I slept on the 7' long bridge bench seat)

Man, that was a fishing/diving trip. West Palm to West End, to Chub Cay, to Nassau, to Stella Maris, to Great Inaugua, to Provinciales. Then non-stop to Bimini, and then back to West Palm. In 8 days. The boat never hiccuped once.

Fred, I was 23, unmarried, out of prison less than 9 months, and the owner of the marina where I worked (who owned the boat) payed me my normal weekly salary to go on a fishing and diving trip with him and his friends. This was because I had my 100 ton Ocean Operator license and Rescue Diver certification, and had navigated to, through, and from the Bahamas with my grandfather since I was 10.

So not only was it an all expense free trip to the Bahamas, but I was getting paid to do it as well.

What was I gonna do? Tell my boss "no"? Are you kidding?
Even my parole officer thought it was a great deal when I asked for a travel permit.

Fr. Frank,

Remind me to tell you the story of the priest, the minister and the rabbi going fishing one day. You'll love it!
